Frequently Asked Questions
Does it matter what time I arrive or depart?
- If you arrive/depart at any time on the scheduled start/end dates of your trip, OneSeed will arrange for airport or bus station transfers. Pickup will be arranged to efficiently transfer clients with arrival times in close proximity (generally within one hour of each other). If you plan to arrive before Day 1 or stay past Day 8 of your trip, you will need to coordinate your own airport transfer or purchase a trip extension through OneSeed.
- Your expedition ends upon arrival to the airport in Dubrovnik around noon. We ask that you not book your outgoing flight until after 3 pm in case there are any delays earlier in the day.
- You may also elect to depart the group upon arrival off the ferry in Split. You will arrive at approximately 8:30am, and your guide can help you hail a taxi to the Split airport or a hotel. If you are flying out of Split, we suggest booking a departure flight after 11:00am.
Do I need a visa? And what about passport requirements?
- Citizens of the US, EU countries, the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand do not need visas to visit Croatia. Travelers can visit Croatia for up to 90 days in any 180 day period.
- You must posses a passport that is valid for at least six months beyond your trip departure date.
What happens if my trip is altered due to unforseen circumstances?
Per the Assumption of Risk and Liability Waiver Agreement, if your expedition must be altered at any point, you are responsible for any additional costs.Canceled flights and transportation strikes happen. We do our best to ensure that your experience is unaltered by handling the situation efficiently and smoothly. For complete terms and conditions, see here. We recommend reviewing optional trip cancellation and interruption insurance to cover expenses in these instances. Some instances that have come up are:
- A twisted ankle one week before a trip
- Power outages in the Atlanta airport leaving travelers stranded
- Burst appendix!
- Earthquakes or floods cutting a trip short
DO I NEED ANY IMMUNIZATIONS OR MEDICINE?
Talk to your physician and follow recommended CDC guidelines found here.
WILL WE NEED TO FILTER WATER?
Water is safe to drink from the tap!
WHAT FOOD SHOULD I EXPECT TO EAT ON THE TRAIL?
- Meals are a nice mix of Croatian dishes and western food that are high in carbohydrates and protein to keep you fueled up for the expedition.
- Breakfast may include eggs, oatmeal, bread, ham & cheese, fruit, tea, and coffee.
- Lunch is usually a sandwich (with a vegetarian/vegan/gluten free options), fruit, and dried fruit.
- Expect delicious Mediterranean food for dinners on your own. Lots of fish, seafood, risotto, potatoes, spinach, olive oil, olives, cheese, smoked ham, figs, tomatoes, pasta, and bread.
- OneSeed is able to accommodate most allergies and dietary preferences. If you didn't include this information on your registration form, please email info@oneseedexpeditions.com. We recommend any vegan travelers bring extra protein bars.
WHAT MEALS AM I RESPONSIBLE FOR?
You are responsible for dinners on Days 2 - 6, and lunch on day 7. We recommend bringing cash (Euros) to pay for dinners along the trail as paying with credit cards can be difficult. The equivalent of €200 - €250 is sufficient for most travelers purchasing a three-course meal and alcoholic beverage at each dinner. You may also want to consider having sufficent cash for tips before leaving for the islands on Day 2. Plan to obtain Euros in advance, either through your bank before you leave for Croatia, or at an ATM/money exchange in the Dubrovnik airport when you arrive. Credit cards are not universally accepted in the small towns on the islands and ATM availability is sporadic outside of Dubrovnik.
WHAT ARE THE ACCOMMODATIONS LIKE?
You will be sleeping in bed and breakfast guest houses along the coast and islands. Every guest house has private rooms with private bathrooms. It is recommended that you bring your own travel shampoo and soap.
CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY
- Please refer to our Terms & Conditions here: www.oneseedexpeditions.com/terms-of-service
How many people will be on my expedition?
We generally cap our group departure dates at around 10, though some may be slightly larger depending on the expedition. We guarantee all group departure dates whether there are 1 or 10 travelers signed up. We recommend asking our team how many people are in your group when you sign up for a departure date. Keep in mind, travelers may join or cancel at the last minute! If you are the only one in your group, we are happy to work with you on changing your travel dates if no deposits have been made.
what is the etiquette for tipping?
Tips for expedition guides are always appreciated. Click the link to view our current tipping recommendations. https://www.oneseedexpeditions.com/blog/tipping
In Croatian restaurants, it is expected that you leave a 10% gratuity, even if there is a fee included on your bill. If you found the service particularly wonderful it's good etiquette to tip 15%. There may not be a line on your credit card receipt to write in a tip: plan to either leave cash or let your server know to include a tip before running your card.
DOES SOMEONE CARRY MY PACK? WHAT ABOUT LUGGAGE?
You will carry a small daypack (15-21 L) with anything needed for your daily adventures. OneSeed will handle all additional bag transport and storage at your hotels.
HOW SHOULD I TRAIN FOR MY TREK?
- Multi-sport expeditions require an average level of physical fitness. No technical skills are required, and first-time trekkers, bikers, and kayakers are welcome. We always recommend that travelers break in their hiking boots before the expedition. Taking training hikes or rides that mimic the mileage and amount of time you will be trekking in Croatia is recommended.
- Travelers should be able to swim and feel confident in the water.
- While not at altitude or too physically rigorous, this trip does include long active days and early mornings.
WHAT IS THE ELEVATION? IS ALTITUDE A CONCERN?
The highest elevation you will reach on your trek is 2,552 ft. Trekking at high elevation is generally not a concern below 10,000 ft.
WHAT WILL THE WEATHER BE LIKE?
Visit the terrain section above to see average temperatures and weather forecasts for Croatia's southern coast. Expect hot days and warm nights, with the hottest temps peaking in July.
ANY OTHER TIPS?
Credit and debit cards are not always accepted in the small towns through which you will pass. ATMs are not usually available outside of the larger towns of Dubrovnik, Postira, and Vis. Be sure to take out sufficient cash upon arrival to avoid stress later.
We always ask that you stay safe on the trail by drinking plenty of water, eating well, and communicating openly with your guide about any issues that arise. Be sure to take care of your belongings, be respectful of your travel companions, and respect the natural landscape that you're exploring.
