- Peru is home to the potato. There are over 5,000 varieties preserved in Peru today. One way for Peruvians to express how proud they are is to say, “I am more Peruvian than a potato” (Soy mas Peruano que la papa).
- Peru is full of rain forest. About 60% of the country is covered by the Amazon Rain Forest. This ranks Peru as the 4th most rainforest-covered country in the world.
- Peru has great biodiversity. Peru contains 28 out of the possible 32 different climates making it extremely diverse.
- Machu Picchu means Old Mountain. The Incan Empire built their city atop two massive mountains, Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu.
